Whakarongo

Sat, 02/11/2012 - Fri, 05/25/2012

Whakarongo features the work of nine Maori artists from as far north as Auckland and as far south as Christchurch. These artists live and work in a multicultural landscape, comfortably crossing between Maori values and the changing face of New Zealand today.

The exhibition invites the viewer to join the artists on a journey to listen to the movements and murmurs facing Aotearoa today, to look further from the beaten track and reveal a deeper, more interesting way to see.

The artists are: Ngatai Taepa, Ngaahina Hohaia, Reuben Friend, Saffronn Te Ratana, Hemi Macgregor, Natalie Robertson, Kereama Taepa, Nathan Pohio, and Tracey Tawhiao.

Whakarongo translates this way:

- to listen, hear, obey

- to taste, smell, feel

- listening, hearing, obeying

(Te Aka Maori-English, English-Maori Dictionary and Index)
