Our specialist Gallery Educators deliver a range of Education Programmes for Primary and Secondary School students. Our ArtBus service transports students to and from the Gallery and is available for use by all schools in Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty Region free of charge (conditions may apply).

What we offer

Tauranga Art Gallery Education Programmes are based on current exhibitions, and cater for the learning needs of students at all levels. Education Programmes are created to support the Key Competencies of the NZ curriculum, and are developed and led by our specialist Gallery Educators. Our 2018 programmes are supported by the Ministry of Education’s Learning Experiences Outside The Classroom initiative (LEOTC).

0 - 8 Years: 

When possible Year 0 - 8 classes can buddy with another class to take part in a Gallery/Library exchange programme with Tauranga City Library.

9 - 13 Years: 

Tauranga Art Gallery Education Programmes are adapted to the Gallery’s diverse, and regularly changing schedule of exhibitions, and can be tailored to suit individual class and NCEA subject requirements. Programmes are developed and led by our specialist Gallery Educators.

Visiting the Gallery in 2018 costs $3, as of January 2019 the cost will increase to $5 per student for an exhibition learning experience + practical art activity (1.5 hour session), and $3 for an exhibition learning experience only (up to 45 minutes).

2019 Education Programmes

Mega World

For Years 0 - 8
11th March - 7th June

Impossible cities and unknown landscapes are some of the scenarios that spring to mind when thinking about contemporary illustration. This exhibition explores a multitude of approaches from picture books and comics which show underground illustration, animation and contemporary art.

In the Education Studio learners will create their own illustration based artwork.

Curriculum links: Art, English
