Full Circle: 12 Years of The Miles celebrates the past winners of the much beloved Miles Art Awards. Running biennially for the past decade, the Miles Art Awards has been an opportunity for artists residing in the Bay of Plenty to submit their most accomplished artworks for Tauranga’s premiere art award and to be exhibited in Tauranga Art Gallery. The event is named after one of Tauranga Art Gallery’s original donors, the late Venetta Miles, who is remembered for her considerable foresight and generosity.
In 2022, as all good things must come to an end, the Venetta Jessie Miles Trust concluded. After seven iterations of the award (running from 2010 – 2022) Tauranga Art Gallery proudly presents, Full Circle, a ‘greatest hits’ exhibition bringing together all previous winners of the Miles Art Awards Supreme Award and the Friends of the Tauranga Art Gallery Award together in one space.
Just as life, environments, and even galleries evolve and change, so too does an artist’s oeuvre. The works in this exhibition have been personally selected by the artists to represent their current practice.
Full Circle acknowledges the legacy of Venetta Miles and our strong, vibrant community of artists in the Bay of Plenty who have shared their work with us over the past twelve years.
This exhibition brings together works by Alex Miln, Doreen Mcneill, Graham Crow, Hannah Valentine, John Roy, Kyle Sattler, Lea-Anne Sheather, Lynette Fisher, Mandy Hague, Marianna Bullmore, and Tawhai Rickard.
