Samoacontemporary

Samoacontemporary showcases the strength of Samoan art within the New Zealand and international contemporary art scene.

While Samoan artists have exhibited internationally and nationally under the umbrella of Pacific art, this exhibition is dedicated solely to Samoan artists living and working in New Zealand.

The exhibition involves 17 artists – three of whom are Samoan-born but who are all New Zealand residents who now view Samoa as ‘somewhere else’.

his distance allows them to look at their culture through fresh eyes.

In their various ways, the artists synthesise their Samoan heritage and their culture within New Zealand, as well as their wider New Zealand experiences, with a blend of customary and contemporary uniqueness.
