Born in Hamilton and raised in and around the Coromandel, Venn is an international illustrator now based in Cambridge, New Zealand.
He has been working in the field since 2009 for clients all around the globe, including Wall Street Journal, Jamie Oliver Magazine, Tesco, EasyJet Airlines, Conde Nast Traveller, Cambridge University Press and Walker Books.
Although many illustrators have moved to working solely a computer, Venn’s unique style is based on textures he creates by hand, using ink, screenprinting, pencils, pens, crayons and whatever else comes to hand. He combines these textures with drawings and shapes that are then composited digitally.
He has been shortlisted for the 2012 Canon Media Awards 'Best Artwork' and was a winner in the 3x3 Proshow Illustration Awards 2013. He was also recently featured in the '200 Best Illustrators Worldwide' 2016/17.
Venn has also produced work for solo and group shows, made zines and comics, and illustrated a picture book in 2013 which was written by Sally Sutton. He is currently working on his own picture book as both author and illustrator.
