CANCELLED - Original Folk Blues by Charlie Parr
Friday, May 8, 2015 - 7:00pm

Charlie Parr, booked to play at the Tauranga Art Gallery on May 8, unfortunately had to cancel the upcoming tour to New Zealand and Australia due to a health issue with a member of his immediate family. Here is a brief statement from Charlie:

To the promoters of the Broadbeach Blues Festival and other venues of my May '15 tour:

I imagine you've already been informed that I won't be able to come to Australia and New Zealand this year for a tour. I wanted to write personally and thank you for your willingness to have me play and to apologize for not being able to do so. I'm struggling with some serious illnesses within my immediate family and I need to put them first. I'm sure you can appreciate this. I'm grateful to Neil, Geoff & Cathy for being understanding and supportive throughout this time, and I truly hope that my decision doesn't reflect poorly on them. Thank you for your understanding,

Charlie Parr

Many people play roots music, but few modern musicians live those roots like Minnesota's Charlie Parr. Recording since the earliest days of the 21st century, Charlie's heartfelt and plaintive original folk blues and traditional spirituals don't strive for authenticity: They are authentic.

He plays a National resonator guitar, a fretless open-back banjo, and a 12-string guitar often in the Piedmont blues style. His influences include Charlie Patton, Bukka White, Reverend Gary Davis, Dave Van Ronk, and Mississippi John Hurt.

Charlie Parr plays at the Tauranga Art Gallery on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 7:30pm (doors open at 7pm)
Cost: $25 general admission or $20 for Friends of the Gallery and Students
There will be a cash bar
