The portraits in Faces of the Friends have been loaned from private collections belonging to Friends of the Gallery. Very few of these works have been shown publicly before.
Potraiture is as diverse as it is old. Many different artistic styles and treatment of subjects can be seen in this exhibition. Stylistically, they range from the sensitive and delicate Portrait of Lady Ferguson to the somewhat unnerving photograph, Cosmetician Shiseido, by the contemporary New Zealand photographer, Yvonne Todd.
The Gallery would like to thank the Friends of the Gallery for generously loaning their artworks for this exhibition.
