john roy: fool's gold

Fool's Gold is a selection of works from award winning, Tauranga based ceramicist John Roy. John has exhibited widely, is well loved locally and has works in many public collections throughout Aotearoa | New Zealand. This is a chance to view John’s works that show the progression and development of some of his key ideas and motifs from the last 25 years. Located in the former bank vault at Tauranga Art Gallery, Fool's Gold is a trick, a place for treasure but perhaps there is more than meets the eye.

In 1997 John Roy completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts at Whanganui Polytechnic where he majored in ceramics. Since then, John has continued to work with clay, establishing himself as one of New Zealand’s prominent ceramic artists. John Roy has been an artist in residence, won numerous awards and has work in a number of public collections including the Auckland Museum, Tauranga Art Gallery, Rotorua Museum, Waikato Museum, the James Wallace Arts Trust and the Sarjeant Gallery.
