Sylvia Hemoata Willison - Trustee

Sylvia is the Chief Executive Officer of Huria Trust and Chairperson of the Huria Marae.  She affiliates to nga hapu of Ngai Tamarawaho, Ngati Rangi and Ngai Tamawhariua and a registered member of Ngati Ranginui and Ngai Te Rangi Iwi of Tauranga Moana.

As a recent appointment as Trustee, I am very excited about being part of a dynamic and experienced team of people passionate about the Arts & Culture environment.

As an integral member of the Cultural Advisory Group of the newly established ‘Whare Wananga o Waikato ki Tauranga Moana’ campus, our group was responsible for ensuring the stories of Mana Whenua, Tauranga Moana & Te Moana a Toi were represented in all facets of the Artwork.  Key features etched and woven into the artwork reflect and embrace the many nationalities it is envisioned, will begin their tertiary education journey, here.

To be hands-on in the arts and cultural industry, is an exciting journey I will look to experience during the period of my term as a Trustee. 

I will be responsive and committed to continue the great work of the previous board and staff, to support and strengthen Te Ao Maori within the realm of Art and Culture.
