Top student art on show at the Gallery - 01 Jul 2010
An exhibition of New Zealand’s top NCEA level 3 art portfolios that achieved excellence in 2009, is touring the country and will on display be at Tauranga Art Gallery between 12 -22 July.
Tauranga Art Gallery’s education and visitor programmes manager, Grant Thompson, says it is a chance for this year’s level 3 Visual Arts students to see first-hand a range of high calibre art produced by their peers, in each of the five visual arts contexts.
“Seeing the standard of work achieved by last year’s students who achieved excellence, means students can gain an idea of what they need to aim for in order to achieve excellence themselves.”
This year the exhibition includes information from the artists on the development of their work.
Grant is also hosting talks around the Top Art exhibition based on each of the five visual arts contexts in conjunction with the secondary visual arts advisor, Tracy Murray. The talks will be in the second week of the school holidays. Painting will be at 11am, Monday 12 July, design and photography at 11am, Tuesday 13 July and sculpture and printmaking at 11am, Wednesday 14 July.
