Jade Quartet Performs at Gallery

Jade String Quartet performance: 8pm, Saturday 7 November


A series of brilliant live concerts has established Jade String Quartet as a musical force to be reckoned with. Formed in 2003 by four Auckland Philharmonia (APO) players, the group’s enjoyment of a wide repertoire, from the Baroque to highly original arrangements of modern music, is easily conveyed to audiences and has won them many fans.

Jade String Quartet plays at Tauranga Art Gallery at 8pm, Saturday 7 November as part of a tour organised by Arts on Tour New Zealand (AOTNZ). The quartet is travelling the country playing music by Vivaldi, Beethoven, Prokofiev, Bartok, Phillip Glass, Jonathan Besser and ‘Orange Blossom Special 5’.

Eclectic violinist Miranda Adams (of Vivo and Bravura fame), is well-known throughout New Zealand for her dazzling virtuosity and as Associate Concertmaster with APO. She is joined by fellow New Zealander, William Hanfling (co-violin),who is currently a Sub-Principal Player in the APO.

Robert Ashworth, prize-winning violist from Canada, is in much demand as a solo, chamber and orchestral player throughout New Zealand. German-born cellist Claudia Price, brings her international experience from London and Berlin tofurther enhancethe group'ssound.

Jade String Quartet concludes the AOTNZ performances at the Gallery for 2009, which has featured Pacific Curls, the Mamaku Project, Big Belly Woman, Michele A’Court’s Lady Bunch, The Pioneers, Matthew Marshall and Skin Tight.

The Gallery has procured the AOTNZ programme again for 2010.
