Term 1 Programmes 2010

The Tauranga Art Gallery education programme is partly funded by the Ministry of Education and has a Learning Experiences Outside the Classroom contract to deliver progammes that support teaching and complement learning in the classroom. The programmes are curriculum focussed and provide authentic hands on interactive and specific learning experiences. The Gallery's education team works closely with teachers, tailoring programmes to ensure that school visits are both valuable and enjoyable educational experiences for all age levels.

Term 1, 2009 Programmes

These programmes are only a selection of many possibilities and are mostly media based. Themes that are school wide, syndicate, or classroom based can be accommodated for, as we will tailor a programme to suit.

Tracey WilliamsMY SHIP / Tënei Wakahëra Tracey Williams

The work utilises cultural connections to Tauranga's waterfront as a position from which to consider the construction of individuals and societies via imagination and history associated with place. The Atrium installation is multimedia and has several key components. These include a custom-built 'ship', entirely clad in textiles and women's craft-work. There are also wall projections specific to Tauranga Moana and 2-D works on wood that appear to 'float' across all of the main walls.

  • using black paper and white tissue, create a silhouette of a ship.
  • create a shadow theatre as an extension of the above activity.
