Friends of the Gallery are art enthusiasts committed to supporting Friends of the Gallery the Gallery socially, financially and politically.


As a Friend you play a vital role in the continuing support of the Gallery, with the opportunity to be actively involved in the region's arts community through regular communications on

upcoming exhibitions and events.

As a Friend you receive

  • invitations to Gallery functions, such as previews, floortalks, lectures, presentations and performances
  • invitations to Friends functions, such as studio visits, visits to other galleries and viewing private collections
  • regular newsletters
  • 10% discount off catalogues and books on sale at Tauranga Art Gallery

Friends of the Gallery Upcoming Events

Two very experienced local artists have offered to open their studios for the next Friends' events. Spaces are limited so it is recommended that you book early to avoid disappointment.


3pm, Sunday 18 July
Timo Rannali Studio Visit

Timo is will known for his vibrant and easily identifiable works. He has been painting full-time for 10 years and in that time has developed a complementary design business as well as completing his wonderful book Aotearoa New Zealand: A Land to Love.

Come along to his studio in Mount Maunganui to see and hear about what motivates his unique convex panorama style. Plus it will be a chance to chat to him about is many road trips hunting out and sketching locations for the diverse range of paintings that are presented in his book.

Ata Ellery Studio Visit

The Pacific region inspires Ata's beautifully considered works. After training in fashion design she attended the Waikato School of Arts to assist in developing her art skills. Since 1984 she has exhibited nationally in solo and group shows.

Our visit to her studio will give you the chance to see some of the oils, acrylics and mixed media works that Ata produces. It is an opportunity to hear from Ata about her ongoing drive to push the possibilities of paint and colour.
