Veronica Herber’s practice revolves around the transformation of everyday materials, places and objects into something out of the ordinary. She uses Washi masking tape as a preferred medium to transform large sites and small objects by covering all or part of them.
Participants will be shown how to enhance the essence of simple rocks and pieces of 'found' wood by covering them with small hand torn pieces of Washi tape. Veronica’s practice is concerned with simplicity, bringing out the nature of things by revealing their forms. This is done by picking out the surfaces and shapes of the objects. The torn pieces of tape relate to the size and forms of the objects. You will see how to transform an object through a simple covering of a skin of tape and the addition of charcoal if desired.
As participants work with their objects, they will find themselves becoming more observant and starting to see the world in a more sculptural way. Veronica will discuss our connection to our surroundings and how to 'see' and experience the world through an artist's eyes.
Though all materials are provided, participants are welcome to bring small objects from home such a stone or pieces of wood to turn into sculpture. If you decide to bring wood, please ensure it is completely dry.
