The Apron: A Garden Project by Richard Orjis

November 2016 - February 2017

Auckland-based contemporary artist Richard Orjis has conceived a wildflower garden for the summer.

Commissioned by Tauranga Art Gallery for the Tauranga Garden & Art Festival this project explores the history of meadows and wildflowers and how they can change the way we think about urban green spaces.

This offsite project has re-imagined the Baycourt Theatre lawn inviting passers-by to look and experience city gardens in a new way. With rambling pathways and mown lawn areas alongside wildflowers and long grass, Orjis suggests alternatives to the manicured parks we have become more accustomed to.

This project is in collaboration with Baycourt and Tauranga City Council.
